Charity Car Auction Minnesota Offer Tips For Developing Successful Vehicle Auctions

Charity car auction Minnesota,

Auctioning off big ticket items, such as vehicles, can go a long way in easily raising money for your not-for-profit organization or charity.  You can auction off several vehicles at a time or just one.  Either way, this is an excellent means for fundraising.

You don’t need a large space or lot to perform an auction like this.  In fact, you can develop and list your charity car auctions free at Charitable-auctions.com.  By filling out the free sign-up form, you’ll gain access to the IDonateToCharity.org website where you can design car auctions with no listing fees.  The only thing you pay is a small fee when your auction item sells.  This is an excellent resource, available 24 hours a day, to host and run your charity car auctions from the comfort of your own home.

Some Tips for Starting and Running a Charity Car Auction Minnesota

The first step you need to take is to get your hands on a donated vehicle.  Without any vehicles to auction, well, there’d be no point in completing the other steps.  So, how does one go about such a thing?  One way is to solicit donations from auto dealerships.  Tell them about your 501(c)(3), tax-exempt status.  You will need to provide them with your non profits’ information as well as a statement of purpose explaining how your organization intends to use the money raised from the sale of the vehicle.

Another method to obtain donated vehicles is to publicize your organization’s meaningful purpose and explain the many advantages of vehicle donations.  Donating an automobile to charity earns taxpayers the ability to claim a “fair market value tax deduction,” which can oftentimes be worth more than what the individual would make if he/she were to sell the vehicle.  In addition, you can offer them public recognition for their donation.  Make sure they transfer the title and that you give them a receipt during vehicle pick up.  Once the car has sold at auction, you’ll also need to send them a bill of sale so they can claim their deduction on their taxes.

  • Publication 561, Determining The Value of Donated Property
  • Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions
  • Instructions for Form 8283, Noncash Charitable Contributions

If you want to hold your vehicle auctions in a public venue, you’ll need to speak with someone who owns a large area of land, empty lot, or other large space.   Ask if they’re willing to allow your organization to perform its’ auction on their land.  Alternatively, you can attempt to work out a deal with them where you rent the space or give them a percentage of the money you raise in return for use of their property.

The next step is to market and publicize your auction event.  Sell tickets ahead of time.  This will attract serious bidders.  Generate plenty of interest and excitement and market your auction in newspapers, flyers, automotive magazines, or other venues.

Once you’ve completed the fore mentioned steps, you’ll need to hire an auctioneer or find an experienced volunteer who is willing to participate.  Look for someone who has a great personality and is able to generate a lot of enthusiasm and bids.  You’ll also need to assign volunteers to register every bidder as they arrive at your auction.  You can request credit card or bank account information, if you’d like, to verify their information as a potential bidder.

Whatever style of auction you choose, it’s always helpful to have some food and beverages available to participants or provide entertainment to spice things up.  Don’t be afraid to be creative in your approach.  The more enjoyable the experience is, the more likely your auction will be a success.
